MMA Guru Prediction: Buckley via TKO in Round 1 or 2.
Timestamp for analysis 8:17.
The problem for Colby Covington has always been that he has no power which puts him at a disadvantage in multiple ways. Opponents don’t respect his punches.
Despite Colby Covington’s impressive wrestling credentials and past performances against Kamaru Usman, Guru is concerned about his extended layoffs. His best fights are from times long, long ago.
Also, Buckley’s explosive power and momentum coming down from middleweight could prove problematic for Covington, who will have ring rust. While Covington historically relies on his pressure and wrestling, Buckley’s compact frame and demonstrated ability to defend takedowns could neutralize this strategy.
Buckley’s power punching and ability to explode in close quarters might overwhelm a potentially tentative Covington, especially early in the fight. Given Covington’s time away from competition and Buckley’s recent activity and power advantage, Guru has Buckley scoring an early TKO victory. The key factor will be Buckley’s ability to stuff early takedown attempts and force Covington into striking exchanges where he holds the power advantage.
This is a premium, PPV fight that we’re now getting on a Fight Night in Tampa.
