MMA Guru landed another huge interview with a UFC star, this time getting fellow Englishman and true UFC heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall on the show. The interview lasted 24 minutes and included a few highlights.
Guru mentioned that he and Ariel Helwani don’t have the best relationship, saying “Ariel doesn’t like me very much.” He’s not sure if they’ll ever be able to have a one-on-one interview, saying “it’s a long way away it seems.”
Guru loathes Arial for his swarmy ways so he was trying to bridge the gap with Tom who said, Ariel is “my guy as well.”
Tom is incredibly easy going, but it’s still somewhat surprising he can be on good terms with Ariel. Then again, Tom’s the heavyweight champ so of course Ariel likes him.
As for getting in the ring after the fight, Aspinall jokingly says he’ll try to do that. He says he’ll play it by ear and see how he’s feeling that night.
Towards the end of the interview, Tom extends an open invitation to the MMA Guru to come train with him at his gym. Aspinall says “invite anytime you want, invite anytime. If you want to come down for a day and do whatever you want, I’ll rock up.”
He mentions that there are these “influencer boxing things” popping up, and he’d love to get the Guru involved to work on his boxing and take advantage of Aspinall’s “quickest hands in the UK.”
Aspinall also says he’ll hook Guru up with some connections in the “Misfits” organization, suggesting he can help the Guru get involved in some of those types of events.
Guru’s interview skills are still sorting out and it’s in part because Guru still isn’t really trying to interview the athletes as much as he’s trying to have a regular conversation with them.
Ultimately, it doesn’t really seem to matter because the athletes appreciate the realness.
